Pick Opal if you want the same blocker across iPhone, Mac and Android, or need to block websites. Pick Focus if you only use Android and want a free session that can't be cancelled, automatic schedules, and a brain game in place of the feed.
We make Focus, so we've stuck to how each app works and left out prices, which change often. Opal is a well-made app with a big following on iPhone; here's how the two compare for someone on Android.

The main differences
Android-first vs Apple-first
Opal built its name on iPhone and added Android in 2025. Focus has only ever been an Android app, built around Android's permissions and the battery settings of brands like Samsung, Xiaomi and Vivo, which is where most blockers break. If you also use an iPhone or Mac, Opal covers all of them; Focus doesn't.
What's free
In Focus, the strict part is free: Strict sessions, block rules, Phone-only mode once a day and all 12 brain games. Pro removes the ads and the limits on apps and schedules. Opal also has a free plan, with more features in its subscription; check its store page for the current split.
What happens at the block screen
When you open a blocked app, Focus offers a short brain-training game, so the urge to scroll turns into a minute of training. Opal tracks a focus score to keep you motivated over time.
Who should choose which
- Choose Opal if you use an iPhone or Mac too, or you need website blocking.
- Choose Focus if you're on Android, want a strict block without paying, or like the idea of a game instead of the feed.

Common questions
Is Opal available on Android?
Yes. Opal started on iPhone and launched an Android version in 2025. Focus, by contrast, has only ever been built for Android.
Is Focus a free alternative to Opal?
Focus is free on Android, including Strict sessions that can't be cancelled, block rules and all 12 brain games. The free version blocks 3 apps at once with one active schedule and shows ads. Focus Pro removes the limits and the ads.
Which is stricter, Focus or Opal?
Both offer sessions that are hard to end early. In Focus, Strict mode is on by default and free: no pause or cancel until the timer ends, and blocking comes back after a restart. Phone-only mode goes further and blocks every app except calls, camera and payments.
Should I choose Opal or Focus?
Choose Opal if you want one app across iPhone, Mac and Android, or need website blocking. Choose Focus if you only use Android and want a free hard block, schedules, and brain games instead of the feed.
